If I understand you correctly, C-h k (or M-x describe-key) will do
that. For example:
,----[ C-h k ESC TAB ]
| ESC TAB runs the command ispell-complete-word
| which is an interactive autoloaded Lisp function in `ispell'.
| [Arg list not available until function definition is loaded.]
|
| Try to complete the word before or under point (see `lookup-words')
| If optional INTERIOR-FRAG is non-nil then the word may be a character
| sequence inside of a word.
|
| Standard ispell choices are then available.
