You can list of the available fonts with

xlsfonts

Write one of them into the file ~/.Xresources. 
Eg.
Emacs.Font: -adobe-courier-medium-r-normal--18-180-75-75-m-110-iso8859-1

Reload this file

xrdb -load ~/.Xresources

After starting a new Emacs it should use that font.
