I have just installed emacs through synaptic on Kubuntu 7.10. When I open and edit my .emacs fil there are no colors or highlighting. When I last used emacs both my .emacs file and my C files (.c) was automatically highlighted. Is there some module I need to install?

Go to menu: options: Customize Emacs: Specific Options: Font Lock Global Modes

and then set Value to all.

and/or :Global Font Lock Mode

and then set Value to on

This should have been the default setting. Maybe something in your .emacs has turned it off.
