This ELisp code can be executed in *scratch* buffer, not in a shell.

You can also add in your init file (~/.emacs):

        (add-to-list 'load-path "/usr/local/share/maxima/5.15.0/emacs")

This way GNU Emacs will know automatically the path to imaxima.
