Gnus Imap GMail

I have a bunch of folders on Gmail which i am accessing using imap. My
folders are divided in to 3 groups on level one i have personal folders
on level 2 i have mailing lists on level 3 i have Gmail folders (spam
trash etc).

I have set  gnus-activate-level to 1 but gnus still checks level 2 and 3
folders for new messages. In the end i got mails listed twice once for
the folder and once in the All Mail folder.

>From the manual i understand that gnus should only check level one
folders and leave level 2 and 3 alone, until i do 2-g or 3-g.

Am i missing something?
