I'm using Aquamacs 1.8.

I cannot reproduce this issue with Emacs on GNU/Linux.  Does it work in
your case if you use Emacs (perhaps started with -Q) instead of
Aquamacs?

Thanks for looking into this Ralf.  I tried this:

"/Applications/Aquamacs Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Aquamacs Emacs" -q

but had the same results. I'll report it to the Aquamacs developers in case it is specific to Aquamacs.
