Looks a bit old – GNU Emacs 23.2 should be out (in CVS 24.0.50 is recent).
This is on Ubuntu 9.10. It claims to have GTK support.
You can check with lsof which libraries are really used this moment...Which scroll-bars do you have, the left or the right ones? (I'm not going to tell which is which...)
