This is never going to be solved.  Emacs lacks the resources to pay
for a team dedicated to usability issues, more so if you think about
how many platforms it runs on.  Moreover, it is maintained by advanced
users, which are unlikely to understand the needs of beginners.

I applaud your effort to use Emacs for diffs.  I gave up very quickly
and to this day I still stick to WinMerge.
