I was trying to use emacs's make-indirect-buffer function to create a second buffer that gives me a different view into the first. Specifically, I wanted to run a different major mode in my second buffer.

The problem I am running into, is that both major modes do different code highlighting. So the new major mode I set in the indirect buffer stomps on the highlighting of my major mode in the original buffer.

I'm guessing the text properties are shared between buffers? Is there a way to stop this so I get different code highlighting in the indirect buffer?
