Last update: I tried to forget fully about my .emacs.d config and run a "bare" emacs... it works.

Now on to some bisection of my config to figure out which thing that is causing this problem... only O(ln n) away from a solution :-/

Any clues?
Try GNU Emacs 24.2.50! Or try the stable version 24.2!
I have just installed the stable 24.2 version and the problem remains... :-(

How did you configure and compile? Which OS version are you using?
Mac OSX 10.8.2.
http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/
/usr/local/Cellar/emacs/HEAD (3913 files, 121M) *
  Installed with: --cocoa, --use-git-head

brew install emacs --cocoa --use-git-head

But now I have it installed with

brew install emacs --cocoa

And as stated above the problem remains.

I will have to go through my configuration files and see if there is something there that could explain this.
