Yes, I can confirm (Mac OS X 10.5.8). It happens for me particularly with a PDF
file created with XeTeX which has, via eso-pic package, a PDF image in the
background. Sometimes all pages are displayed, sometimes not; sometimes
magnification works, sometimes not.
