Does emacs understand editres (X resources)??

In (info "(emacs)Resources") it says

One way to experiment with the effect of different resource settings is
to use the `editres' program.  See the `editres' man page for more
details.

However when I try editres communicating to emacs it says emacs does not 
understand this protocol

Seems strange to have that in the manual if emacs does not talk that protocol...
