The sane way to read it, in Emacs and elsewhere, is to press SPC to go
forward and DEL (or Backspace, if you have no DEL key) to go back.
This will move you through the node tree in depth-first manner, which
I presume you wanted.  (If that's not what you wanted, please explain
more.)
