To put it all together, it seems to me that this could be a reasonable
change:

  Vsource_directory
    = Fexpand_file_name (build_string ("../src/emacs"),
Vinvocation_directory);

P.S. I don't know if "Vinvocation_directory" is already initialized at that
moment and can actually be used like that, but perhaps somebody could
clarify on that.
