Thanks to everyone for solutions / observations.
I've installed the Sanskrit input method and it seems to work really well. With
a little effort it's now exactly like my Ibus input method. A few asked why I
didn't like the key bindings I was using (e.g., C-c a, C-c i) and so on. It's
because it's difficult to type and leads after some time I find my hand cramps.
The "double-tapping" solution involves less awkward hand postures.
Does anyone here know why the Ibus input method doesn't work with Emacs? I used
Emacs for a period a few years back and I remember that it did work at that
point. I've tried various fixes (e.g., using the Ibus input method) but I
couldn't get it to work. I know that neither 23 nor 24 work with Ibus by
default. I asked the question on another emacs forum but got no responses.
