Drat it was a bit I put in yesterday that the mangled "install" debian build uses was happy enough about after wingeing about all sorts of other stuff.

You need to put in

BATCHUSER = @BATCHUSER@

in the top-level Makefile.in or BATCHUSER=gnubatch in the generated Makefile

I have pushed that change up the repository. Fortunately it will have installed everything else. The config file it was trying to create a directory for was a "no-op" config file.

If people can live with that fix I'd be grateful - I don't want to create a whole new version just for one line right now. Mind you the user map file needs describing. I hate writing docs.
