Image map calibration

Hi,

After some times, I decided to started my first experience with GNUStep
and Objective-C.

In order to stay productive, I decided to implement something I need: an
image map calibration tool. More precisely, it will be a tool that take
a scanned map as input and, after setting some properties, export a
calibrated (geo-referenced) map as output.
Looking around, I finally found something interesting: FligTrack[1]. It
is a more ambitious working program, but it has a calibration tool. The
matter is that it is coded for Cocoa with objective-C++.
I decided to try to port it, but it seems to really use Objective-C++.
As Objective-C++ is not fully supported on Debian, I decided to start
another tool from scratch.

But, it is my first experience with GNUStep, so I'm not sure where to
start.
What design to select?
What is the metaphor appropriate?

As a first step, I wish to build a tool that offer the ability to set up
to 3 points on the scanned map and precise geographic coords for each
point.
My actual comprehension is that I have a model with the map and the 3
points. But what else?
What base object should I use (NSImage or a canva or anithing else)?
What information should be available in the main window and what
informations on inspector?

Any help to start would be appreciate.
