I generally use inline when it appears that the
function will not use much memory os is called
very frequently, and is not worth the function
call overhead.
Do you have a profiler to suggest?

I didn't know that. I have been talking through
what must me an e-mail list mirror. I much prefer
the newsgroup. Thanks.

On many listservs, the manager may choose the function
of "Reply": to the group, or to the individual. I
always choose "to the group", and I find the other
irritating. On at least one group I manage, I have
received complaints that "to the group" results in
too much e-mail. I sometimes respond with some abrupt
comment reminding them of the purpose of the group.
The "e-mail mirror" of this newsgroup appears to use
"to the individual".
