Grub2 booting Windows 7, Win7 doesn't suspend-to-ram

I've posted this question over on the ubuntu forums, but haven't had much luck, so I thought I'd ask here.

Basically, in my computer, I've got two hard drives.  The first with the original XP install, and also an install of Ubuntu 10.04 with Grub2.  I disconnected the drive, added another drive, installed Windows 7.  I then reconnected the original drive, booted into Ubuntu, and ran the update-grub command, which found and added Windows 7 to the Grub2 menu.

 

The problem is that when booted via Grub2, Windows 7 will not suspend-to-ram.  If the Windows 7 drive is the only one connected, it can suspend just fine.  If both drives are connected, and the BIOS boots to the Windows 7 drive, it can suspend.

 

Attached is my current grub.cfg file.  Dynamically at boot time, I've tried various combinations of root='(hd1)' and (hd1,1) and also various combinations of adding a drivemap command, just like the XP line above it 'drivemap -s (hd0) ${root}' 'drivemap -s (hd0) (hd1)', etc.  In the best cast, Windows 7 still boots, but doesn't suspend.  At worst, it hangs at the words 'Starting Windows', and the glowing Windows icon never shows up, and I have to hard reset.

 

At this point, it almost seems like I'll need to add a boot entry to the Windows 7 bootloader, and leave it the BIOS boot drive.  I'd rather not go down that route, as it means two menus to boot into Ubuntu.
