Hi!
First of all- the relevant hardware:
IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801DB (ICH4) IDE Controller (rev 02)
RAID bus controller: HighPoint Technologies, Inc. HPT374 (rev 07)
two PATA HDDs at the Intel Controller (sda(hd0) and sdb(hd1)) and one
SATA on the HPT374 (sdc(hd2)).
The System:
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=10.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=lucid
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS"
Linux server 2.6.32-33-generic-pae #70-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jul 7 22:51:12 UTC
2011 i686 GNU/Linux
GNU GRUB 1.98-1ubuntu12
My problem:
I moved the system from one of the PATA drive to the SATA drive (with
help of the ubuntuusers wiki) and installed grub to sdc with
"grub-install --recheck /dev/hdc".
Then I changed the bootsequence from "fdd;cdrom;hd0" to
"fdd;cdrom;ATA133RAID" and got a bootloop (after checking if the atapi
drive is bootable the pc resets hard).
I changed the bootsequence back to "fdd;cdrom;hd0" and grub starts up-
after manipulating the menu entries I was able to boot from the SATA drive.
I reinstalled grub to sda to be able to boot without manipulating the
grub entries and it works (except the boot menu- I just see a blinking
cursor 10s long and then it boots the first entry) .
I have found a PATA to SATA adapter, installed "sda" to the HPT374 and I
got stuck in a bootloop again :(
I installed "sdc" in a different pc and got a bootloop too :(
What could be the problem here?
And why do I have no boot menu anymore but a "default boot" after 10s?
TIA,
Heiko Lechner.
