Mazyar,
I do not know anything (well almost anything) about Windows, but
your example works just fine on my computer (linux/x86 , octave-2.1.42).
What does 'help lookup' tell you?
In my case:
lookup is the user-defined function from the file
/usr/local/share/octave/2.1.42/site/m/octave-forge/general/lookup.m
usage: idx = lookup(table, y)
...
If it tells you something like:
help: sorry, `lookup' is not documented
then your octave package is incomplete (actually both ppval and lookup
are from octave-forge which is an add-on to the main octave package).
