I can't find any free program that shows me a file in hex
format byte by byte.

I know you've seen this in the old XTPRO where a file will
display hex on one side and characters down the right side

Also, Norton Utilities used to do this.  

Now on Windows 98 I'd like to display a file to check
exactly how it's being written, but I don't have any such
utility.  

What to use?  Is there a .m file floating around that does
that?
