Hi,

When building octave-2.1.57, did you do ./configure --enable-shared?
I am not quite sure what is the problem here, but I have built
octave-2.1.57/octave-forge-2004.07.07 on FC2 w/o any problem.
I usually do ./configure --enable-shared --disable-static
to build octave.
Thanks, that made the trick.
May I suggest that the --enable-shared will be the default flag? I guess
that many users follow these steps (build octave, then build
octave-forge). Making that flag the default will save them troubles.
Also, it might be appropriate to close the help forum in octave.sf.net,
since it is practically inactive. Users can be referred to this mailing
list, instead.

Dmitri.
