I don't know why you are getting the error on both systems.  gperf
3.0.1 should work.  2.7.2 is too old.

There is some configure hackery to try to detect the proper version of
gperf.  Perhaps it is broken.  If so, then I could use some help
debugging it.  Not having gperf is OK, unless you need to reconstruct
oct-gperf.h, which is required if you check out from CVS because
oct-gperf.h is a generated file, so it is not in the CVS archive.
