Printing subplots did not work with anything before Octave 2.9.10.
That problem was one of the primary reasons for rewriting the plotting
interface. If you want this to work, you should be using Octave
2.9.12 and the newer Matlab-compatible plotting features (i.e., no
gset, __gnuplot_set__, etc.).
