Re: Octave 3.6.x packages for RHEL 6.2?

I am attempting to install Octave on my RHEL 6.2 system and am having
problems. In my case, I don't need the latest version - only a somewhat
recent version to start learning Octave.

I attempted to install it as discussed by John Eaton. I enabled use of EPEL.
I attempted yum install octave-forge, but no package was found. However, yum
list shows several available packages, including octave.i686 - which looks
like what I want. I attempted installing in and got the following error:

Error: Package: 6:octave-3.4.2-2.el6.i686 (epel)
           Requires: libglpk.so.0
Error: Package: 6:octave-3.4.2-2.el6.i686 (epel)
           Requires: libfftw3f.so.3
Error: Package: 6:octave-3.4.2-2.el6.i686 (epel)
           Requires: libfftw3.so.3
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

My guess is that I really do need these, so skipping them is not a good
idea. But yum does not find them. I checked a centOS version of the first
one, but that gave even more dependency problems.

My best guess is that I am getting slightly different results because of
using i686 instead of i386.

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

Thank you!
