I meant that you most likely have a different source tree for GNU 
Smalltalk than for your modules.  Compile the former with GCC, the other 
with what you like.

If you need patches to make the GNU Smalltalk *headers* portable to 
other compilers, it should be easy and I'm all for incorporating them.  
If you want to write patches to make GNU Smalltalk compilable with other 
compilers than GCC, I don't expect you to do it but again I'm all for it.

I can assure it's not political.  I'm not using GCC extensions "just 
because they exist".
