Thanks!!! BTW it works great for me. I do:

jpgtopnm $1.jpg | ppmntsc --pal | ppmtoyuv4mpeg | mpeg2enc -m 2 -s -b 2500 -q 1 
-G 24 -g 21 -2 1 -4 1 -N -V 400 -F 3 -o $1.m2v
mplex -f4 -o $1.mpg $1.m2v

I know that maybe there are a lot of unuseful options passed to mpeg2enc,
but this is what I use to encode regular SVCDs and it works in my Philips
DVD711 player. My player can also read this "fake mpeg stills" without
problems...
