Summary: ^? deletes forward, not backward

Initial Comment:
When I use zile on my stock copy of OS X it interprets my hitting the
backspace key and (apparently) sending ^? as DEL and thus deletes
forward. emacs, ssh, and lots of other applications don't work when I
switch to having it send ^H, so that isn't an option. Is there some way I
can get zile to treat ^? as backspace? I tried adding a line to my .zile:

(global-set-key DEL backward-delete-char)

but that didn't seem to work. What should I do?

Closing. The final word on this is that it's an OS X problem, and there
are workarounds; see the patch tracker. See
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1563161&group_id=17089&atid=317089

By the way, you may want to check the patch for this in the patch tracker
(not yet applied to the main sources).

This is between you and your terminal settings (if you want to fix the
Backspace key); if you want to fix the zile bindings, can you please try it
again with the current version? I think global-set-key was broken when you
filed this report. Sorry I didn't see it earlier.
