Your daily GNU ISO in one click!

In its spare time, Hydra happily builds NixOS GNU/Linux ISO images
(granted, that’s not quite a “GNU ISO” yet, but hey):

GNU software on those images is built straight from the VCS: the very
latest glibc, Coreutils, grep, tar, etc., and (most importantly) Guile!
The complete list is shown under the “Build Inputs” tab.

Technically, the complete Nixpkgs bootstrap is done using the latest
packages.  So for instance the Coreutils/grep/etc. binaries are linked
against the latest Glibc, and in turn each package’s build system runs
these binaries, and voilà!  (That’s a simplification of the actual
bootstrap process, but you get the idea.)

There’s also a test that automatically runs the resulting binaries with
‘--version’ in a VM:
