Large Branch Comparison

I am looking for assistance on what you think is the best method of
determining the differences in the directory structure between two CVS
branches.

The CVS repository is in the region of 9Gb per branch which makes it
difficult to do anything quickly.

One branch in the current production system that has continued to have
changes, with the second branch being the next major release, which of
course has been a hive of activity.

The objective is to determine what new directories have been created
in the each branch and determine the differences.  Any help is much
appreciated.
