advisory locks

I am running cvs-1.11.1 on a Linux server and am accessing the repository
from WinCvs on a Win2000 machine. I would like to use advisory locks with
the "cvs edit -c file" command, but I am getting an error from WinCvs:
cvs edit -c "function isnum.sql" (in directory C:\Documents and
Settings\nates\Desktop\mbars_oracle files\module_name)
edit: invalid option -- c
Usage: cvs edit [-lR] [files...]
-l: Local directory only, not recursive
-R: Process directories recursively
-a: Specify what actions for temporary watch, one of
edit,unedit,commit,all,none
(Specify the --help global option for a list of other help options)
*****CVS exited normally with code 1*****
I'm thinking that this could mean that we have a version of CVS that does
not support this option. I have found information that says "The newer cvs
edit -c is preferable, but not all versions of CVS 1.10 support it yet".
Could there be a patch or an upgrade for CVS that would allow us to use this
option?
- advisory locks,
