There are as many ways to manage releases as there software companies.
There is nothing fundamentally wrong with tagging lots of stuff.
For myself, I think you may find that rolling up multiple bug fixes into
a single release tag might be more productive in the general case.
For example, you may wish to associate the tag with a field in the bug
tracking system... then you can get a list of bugs fixed in a given
release and have your one release to many fixed bugs release strategy
that lists the bugs fixed by the next release of your product.
