I've been wondering the same thing, and the above does not provide
enough information to get this to work. I do *not* want HTML rendered
by default, even if there is a MIME header indicating the message is
HTML or multipart with an HTML part. In particular, that node
includes this:
`W h'
Treat HTML (`gnus-article-wash-html'). Note that this is usually
done automatically by Gnus if the message in question has a
`Content-Type' header that says that the message is HTML.
I have the following two variables set in my .gnus.el, both have been
there for a while and the current variable documentation states that
the first setting is superseded by the second:
gnus-mime-display-multipart-related-as-mixed nil
gnus-mime-display-multipart-as-mixed t
but neither appears in the gnus manual any more.
I set them this way long ago because multipart/related messages I was
receiving had images in some messages and I wanted to be able to
access them. But I do not want to render HTML unconditionally just
because w3 is installed and that is what currently happens :-/
