Gnus/5.1006 (Gnus v5.10.6) Emacs/21.3 (gnu/linux) |
In their wisdom my ISP upgraded its NNTP server and didn't tell me.
Eventually I twigged when all articles I tried to read showed up as
expired or cancelled.
So I checked their support pages, found out what had happened, and was
advised that some users may need to unsubscribe and resubscribe to
their groups.
I tried this and I must have been feeling a bit flustered because it
all went horribly wrong. I could't persuade gnus to forget any history
of my interaction with a group and start from scratch. I ended up with
multiple instances of groups in the Group buffer, some subscribed and
some unsubscribed. I got huge amounts of available articles in the
Group buffer and when I tried to catch up it said no unread articles.
In short it was a mess.
I have deleted ~/News and ~/.newsrc.eld and started again.
But the question is - What should I have done?
Thanks
