Maybe its not showing them because they are empty? You can customise
that using the customise group option or do it in your .emacs/.gnus
using something like:
(setq gnus-permanently-visible-groups (rx(or "root" "INBOX" "FastSearch"
"DevelopmentEmail.mail" )))
