Does anyone have any experience with using the Fortress distribution of
Linux? I'm having problems loading on a t400. When selecting load OS from
the grub screen, I get "vmlinuz not found"

Out on a limb, but which option are you picking from the grub screen?
You should pick the last one (at least, that is what works for me
using Debian).
