Be aware that several modules in gnulib are not thread safe.  I think
there were some discussion regarding this on the gnulib list some time
ago, and IIRC it was felt that this was not important for most GNU
applications.  I'm not sure I agree, I think it should be considered a
bug if gnulib modules doesn't work when the application is a library
(which usually means it might not be aware, or want to be aware, if
the application is threaded or not).
