Well, there are systems on which libtool may just change the
$shlibpath_var for the link command due to a -R setting; I think
libtool should not do this silently, by the way.

Thanks, for both the review and for making me spell out the ideas in
more detail! It has actually helped me to get a bit clearer picture
too, and find two more potential bugs:
- ltmain should test for '!= no' instead of '= yes'.
- libtool should print out when it is about to change $shlibpath_var
(so that cut'n'pasting the link command will actually produce the
same thing again).
I've applied the two patches.
