I'm afraid there's no right way to do it. My plan is to arrange for
AC_PROG_LIBTOOL to change the way autoconf tests for libraries and
symbols defined in them, so that everything would ``just work'', but
it's not going to be trivial, and I don't have any time-frame for
this. In fact, I'm not even sure I'll ever have time to implement
it :-(
If you feel like giving it a try, please be my guest :-)
Another alternative is to create libtool-specific M4 macros that one
could use *instead* of autoconf macros. This doesn't appeal very much
to me.
