In particular if a comment remains normally visible to its creator (don't know if this is the case), having a moderator hide it from "normal users" is tantamount to secret censorship. I've been to forums where this kind of thing happens regularly and it tends to leave a bad taste. Naturally, rogue or overachieving moderators can bring down everything but I don't like when the tools suggest being backhanded about it.
