LilyPond as a Plugin

Hi,

I remember that a while ago, someone mentioned using LilyPond as a sort of 
plugin for use with a GUI.  Well, to make this possible, LilyPond would need 
to offer some modes in which a bar of music is given to LilyPond and 
LilyPond would return the appropriate notation as locations of objects.

Just a thought...
