OK; the alternative to feeding me well tested patches, is putting less well tested stuff, but then you have to be available to fix problems as soon as they arise. If your connectivity is flaky, it's better to test more carefully.

(current gub problem: because of the 64-bit problem, guile required
two makes to build, so gub-builder now barfs and wants me to pass
--force-package, but I can't find where to add that flag)

Yes, I will look into that; there are a couple of patches floating on the net for that. You can do

  gub-builder.py -p local --force-package build guile



BTW, will gub need to download much more from internet after make
bootstrap succeeds?

Yes, try "make download" to get everything.
