Yes. Further discussions on the GNU maintainers list (since
yesterday) shows that there's general contentment with using the
primary source (i.e. git) for the "authors list", and I'm
confident that this applies to the recommendation of providing
diffs as well. So I'm going to cross this off from the list of
things to worry about.
