Hi David,  Ok, yes, I agree that it's important to convey the need for a
separate editor application.  I was intending "With LilyPond..." in the
broader sense of overall user experience compared with the typical user's
GUI expectations.  To me that seems like the first thing to get across. 
Maybe something like "Using LilyPond involves writing and editing music by
typing..." is clearer and meets the requisite standards for accuracy?  

Of course, if there's a way to concisely and clearly convey both the overall
text-editing user experience and the need for a separate editor that would
be even better.
