There's also the attached file (which comes from http://www.mail-archive.com/address@hidden/msg47432/shape-tie-columns.ly) which will work with broken ties.

I should point out that in the example, the first part of the broken ties is left alone:  () there is equivalent to ((0 . 0) (0 . 0) (0 . 0) (0 . 0)).
