Why use a number here instead of a pitch?

Just \absolute could be \absolute c, and I see no particular problem
with having
\absolute f { c d e f } be the same as
\absolute { f g a bes }.  If you find that too cute, one can just
document the
cases with note name c.

Just "\absolute" could be "\absolute c", ...

I was not proposing to use "c," as reference, that would be weird.
