The PAE setting was the problem. Thanks for helping, and I apologize for overlooking that step in the instructions.
Ok, good. And welcome to LilyPond! Let me know if you find any problem in LilyDev.The image you are using does not include the package ca-certificates, which is needed for git cloning via https and also when working with git-cl.
