Problem rendering initial dynamics?

First of all, I'm a complete lilypond newbie (just started using last
night) but I was hoping that perhaps somebody could point out what I'm
doing wrong here.

I've attached a .ly file.  Note that the first note is intended to be
marked mf.  However, when I render it with:

lilypond -f ps Devienne_1.ly

The resulting .ps file only has "m", not "mf".  I suspect I've just put
the dynamics marking in incorrectly, but can't seem to figure out the
correct way to do it.  Can anybody offer some help?  Thanks in advance.

My setup:

Linux (RedHat 7.1)
Using the RH 7.1 lilypond RPM which reports as version 1.4.7-1.
