Ok, so the command `latex test.latex' fails.  What does that command
say?  Ah, I can probably guess it: you don't have geometry.sty?

Ouch, in that case, you have an uncomplete or broken tex setup!  How
did you install tex?  Is sample2e.tex on your harddisk at all?

Ah, so you don't have metapost installed.  Try installing something
like tetex-extra; or the package from your distribution that contains
metapost.  What tetex packages does your distribution have?
